What are the working principles of a centrifugal fan?

Mar 31, 2026

When a centrifugal fan is working, the motor drives the impeller to rotate. Gas is drawn in through the axial inlet and enters the rotating impeller. Under the action of centrifugal force, it is accelerated and thrown towards the outer edge of the impeller. At this time, the kinetic and pressure energy of the gas increases (kinetic energy is predominant).

Next, the energy-carrying gas enters the spiral-shaped volute (casing). The special structure of the volute guides the airflow to gradually decelerate and converts some of the kinetic energy into static pressure energy, finally converging and being discharged from the radial outlet. Therefore, the core of a centrifugal fan is to convert the mechanical energy of the impeller rotation into the pressure and kinetic energy of the gas.
